Have a Science Project Idea?

Are you a student, educator, or researcher with a field-based project that might be a good fit for Black Canyon Heritage Park?

We welcome inquiries about temporary, non-invasive projects that support learning, habitat stewardship, and environmental understanding.

Projects must be respectful of wildlife, visitors, trails, and park operations. Contact Ann Hutchinson, Special Projects Advisor, at [email protected]. Please use the subject line: Idea for Special Projects Advisor

Current Projects

Desert Refuge Project: Our Desert Refuge Team at Black Canyon Heritage Park is documenting how native plants and monarch butterflies use BCHP’s unique riparian habitat along the Agua Fria River. This team is continuing work begun by a Grand Canyon University team that did their capstone at BCHP. Thanks to Natalie Melkonoff of Desert Botanical Garden for helping launch this community science effort. At this time, the team is not actively seeking additional volunteers while the project gets established.
Air Sampling project: This temporary, non-invasive student project is just getting started. We’ll have more news as the project progresses.
